KSS 82 – KELSALL

Kelsall Catamaran are established in Cornwall (UK) in 1965 and is headed by Dereck Kelsall a multihull legend. In 1964, he took part to the single handed transatlantic aboard his own trimaran. In 1966, he won the Round Britain race on the first yacht built of foam and fiber glass. With his team, he design BONEFISH a KSS 82, an 82 footer motor catamaran which was supposed to carry sails at the beginning.

This truly is an expedition catamaran. I was lucky to sea trial “Hortense” for Boote Exclusiv (issue to come out mid january), a 90′ mono-hull exploration yacht built by JFA and designed by specialist Michel Joubert and while I was sailing this really nice yacht (finish and sailing performance are amazing) I was wondering why nobody ever designed and built a true motor sailer expedition luxury catamaran. Any one has the answer, I am sure there a prospect out there looking for one ?

BONEFISH took a really long time to build and was moved from one shipyard to the other in New Zealand, but now she is sailing. She offers a lot of space inside and on the deck. She is laid out as a private boat with an owner suite in the port hull with direct access to a saloon and the upper level. Her twin 425 hp will power her at 20 knots average speed.

Kelsall also has designed an 108 footer to be discovered on their website
